Six New Registered Seed Varieties Contribute To Turkish Agriculture

Green beans, three-nosed peppers, fiber flax, popcorn variety, paddy and grass seeds developed by the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute are demanded by the farmers - Institute Director Assoc. Dr. Kibar Ak: - "Recently registered varieties, important varieties for Turkish agriculture"

Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, affiliated to the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, contributes to Turkish agriculture with 6 new seed varieties it has registered.
Developed by research engineers at the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, the green bean variety "Balca", the three-nose pepper (village pepper) variety "Afilli", the paddy variety "İlkeren", the fiber flax variety "Yılmaz", the popcorn variety "Atasam" and local grass variety "Koca Yaşar" was named.
Six seed varieties registered with the Seed Registration and Certification Central Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are preferred by the farmers.
Institute Director Assoc. Dr. Kibar Ak told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the seed varieties they developed this year were in high demand by the farmers.
Ak said, "The varieties we recently registered are important varieties for Turkish agriculture. One of these varieties is KOCA YAŞAR, which was developed to meet the roughage deficit. The fiber flax variety YILMAZ is Turkey's first and only fiber flax variety. İLKEREN, on the other hand, saves our farmers when paddy planting is delayed due to weather conditions or other reasons. Since it is an early variety, producers can get products even in late planting. This year, 6 of our varieties have been registered. We think that these 6 varieties will contribute to Turkish agriculture," he said.

Economic losses will be prevented

Researcher and agricultural engineer Hayati Kar, who developed the green beans called "Balca" and the three-nosed pepper variety called "Afilli", stated that Balca is cultivated in the coastal and inner parts of the Black Sea Region.
Stating that Balca is preferred because it is awnless, productive and delicious, Kar said, "We aim to prevent the economic losses of the farmer with our Balca variety, which is resistant to the bean mosaic virus, which affects the development and yield of the green bean plant."  Kar stated that the three-nosed pepper variety Afilli is early-matured and highly productive.

İlkeren reaches harvest maturity in 90 days
Agricultural engineer Serkan Yılmaz, who developed the paddy variety "İlkeren" and the fiber flax variety "Yılmaz", stated that the paddy matures in 135 days in normal planting, while the İlkeren variety is harvested in 90 days.
Serkan Yılmaz said that the flax variety "Yılmaz", which he gave his last name, is Turkey's first and only fiber flax variety. Yılmaz said, "It is a variety with high fiber yield and rate. Its adaptability is wide. Its seed yield is high, and its technical stem length is also high."  Agricultural engineer Erkan Özata, who developed the popcorn variety called "Atasam", also stated that Atasam stands out with its high popped rate and low unpopped rate. Agricultural engineer Kadir İspirli stated that the grass variety called "Koca Yaşar", which was developed to meet Turkey's roughage needs, has started to be planted in agricultural lands and pastures.
