The Agricultural Sector Broke Export Records In 2021

The export volume of the sector increased by 22.2 per cent compared to the previous year and reached 29 billion 737,6 million dollars in 2021. Of all the agriculture-based sectors, commodities mostly exported during the past year were cereals, legumes, oil seeds and products with a volume of 9 billion 156 million 524 thousand dollars.

The agriculture, sector performed an exportation of over 29 billion dollars and had all-time records.
According to the information compiled by the correspondent of Anadolu Agency from the Turkish Exporters’ Union (TIM), Turkey’s exports increased by 32,9 per cent compared to 2020 and reached 225 billion 367,7 million dollars. The agriculture increased by 22.2 per cent compared to the previous year and reached 29 billion 737,6 million dollars in 2021..the agriculture sector thus had all-time records. The agriculture exports accounted for 13.2 per cent of the total exports of the past year. Of all the agriculture-based sectors, commodities mostly exported during the past year were cereals, legumes, oil seeds and products with a volume of 9 billion 156 million 524 thousand dollars.

The cereals, legumes, oil seeds and oilseed products were followed by furniture, paper and forest products with a volume of 6 billion 993,8 million dollars, aquaculture and animal products with a volume of 3 billion 400,2 million dollars, fresh fruits and vegetables with a volume of 3 billion 83,6 million dollars, hazelnuts and hazelnut products with a volume of 2 billion 260,7 million dollars, fruits and vegetable products with a volume of 2 billion 28,4 million dollars, dried fruits and dried fruit products with a volume of 1 billion 574,3 million dollars, tobacco with a volume of 783 million dollars, olives and olive oil with a volume of 309,5 million dollars, and ornamental plants and ornamental plant products with a volume of 147,6 million dollars. 

The agriculture group made a quantum leap in 9 of its 10 industries last year. While 9 of the 10 industries in the agriculture group increased their exports, 1 industry’s exports retreated last year. With a volume of 39,1 per cent it was the ornamental plants and ornamental plant products industry that raised its exports the most last year amidst the agriculture-based industries. This industry was followed by aquaculture and animal products by 38,8 per cent, furniture, paper and forest products by 25,7 per cent, cereals, legumes, oil seeds and oilseed products by 25,6 per cent, fruits and vegetable products by 20,6 per cent, hazelnut and hazel nut products by 16,6 per cent, olive and olive oil by 14,2 %, fresh vegetables and fruits by 13 per cent, and dried fruits and dried fruit products by 12,6 per cent.

On the other hand, the tobacco exports declined by 14 per cent in 2021 compared to the level in 2020. 
The highest demand to these industries came from Germany and Iraq.  The highest demands to the agriculture group came from Germany and Iraq. Hazelnut and hazelnut products, dried fruits and dried fruit products, fruits and vegetable products were mostly exported to Germany, while cereals, oil seeds and oil seed products, furniture paper and forest products, aquaculture and animal products were mostly exported into Iraq, tobacco and olives and olive oil products were mostly sold into the United States, ornamental plants and ornamental plant products were mostly exported into the Netherlands, and the fresh fruits and vegetables were exported mostly into the Russian Federation. The hazelnut and hazelnut products exports performed into Germany accounted for 536,4 million dollars, while dried fruits and products exports accounted for 232,8 million dollars, and fruits and vegetables exports accounted for 274,3 million dollars. The cereals, oil seeds and oil seed products exports into Iraq accounted for 1 billion 635,5 million dollars, furniture, paper and forest products accounted for 964,7 million dollars, and aquaculture and animal products exports accounted for 555,7 million dollars. The tobacco exports into the United States accounted for 105,1 million dollars while olives and olive oil exports accounted for 60,6 million dollars. The ornamental plants and ornamental plants exported into the Netherlands accounted for 53,9 million dollars, fresh fruits and vegetables exports into the Russian Federation accounted for 1 billion 14,1 million dollars.
